How did the two projects compare and contrast, were there any similarities?

I think there was some similarity between the two projects I chose because both asked me to take something familiar like a phrase or an element and change the context behind in to show a new idea and purpose. However the large contrast between them were the mediums we worked in, while we could use our own photography for the GCD project, I decided to work with found imagery and my own drawings. In Photography and Moving Image, I had to work in one of those two mediums in order to raise questions about humanity and our relation to ecology. On the other hand, in the GCD project I had to explore the meaning of language and use type to do this whereas there was no type or visual words in the Photography project.

Which of the project outcomes do you think is the most successful?

I think that the project outcome I created for the Graphic Communication Design was the most successful because I was able to provide more of an emotional response and this helped me to consider the best way to produce a meaningful outcome. In comparison, the Photography and Moving Image project outcome was less finalised in my eyes and it took me longer to find a way to response accurately to the brief while incorporating my own ideas.

What would you like to change about each of the projects you completed?

I think that I would like to make my outcome for GCD more subtle and original, I like my idea of using protest signs to carry a message however I want to find a way to show the same message in a more natural and relatable environment. For the Photography project I would like to show more progression in my work and especially the illustration I used because I felt like I came to that idea at the end of the week which made my working a bit disjointed.

Which of the pathway areas would you place yourself in and why?

I would place myself in the GCD pathway area, firstly because I studied Graphic Design at A Level and loved devoting my time to it as I found it enjoyable and easy to convey the ideas I had. Secondly, I see myself in this career pathway and I feel like this would be the best way to lead me forward. Finally I believe it would give me the best chance at building up a portfolio to progress into the creative industry.

What skills did you develop during the projects? How do you think your preferred pathway area could help develop those ideas for the future?

In the Photography and Moving Image project, I developed my illustration skills so that they fit as seamlessly as possible into the stills I created to represent how the wind affected the change in seasons and the weather. I feel like this could be developed further through the GCD pathway as it would help me to use my illustrations and drawings to communicate a message .

In the GCD project, I developed my blending of digital and analogue processes by working with both to create my final outcomes. I started with a digital piece which I printed and used a scalpel to cut out a shape for me to draw into. I then scanned this and used digital mockups to present my work in an environment where it made sense. I think that the GCD pathway would help me to develop this skill as I will be able to learn and experiment with different ways of utilising both analogue and digital processes.

Which of the projects offered you greater challenges and why?

I felt that the Photography and Moving Image project offered a greater challenge because I went through more testing phases as I was initially unsure how I could use my idea to demonstrate a non-human narrative to fulfil the brief. This was challenging because I wanted to use still images rather than moving image and wind was a difficult element to capture without recording it.
